A Rhode Island native, Kate Field received her bachelor of arts, with honors, in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. She then went on to receive a bachelor of landscape architecture with high distinction from the University of Arizona. In 1981, Kate started her own firm Katherine Field and Associates, Inc., Landscape Architects and Site Planners. She remains Chief Creative Officer and Principal of the firm with a talented team of landscape architects and designers. Katherine Field and Associates has garnered numerous design awards and editorial coverage for its high-end residential, commercial and institutional work.
Kate’s philosophy is aligned with the mission of the firm- connect, enhance, sustain. In all of her designs she strives to connect the user with the space, enhance the beauty of the natural world and create spaces that sustain over time. Kate has been a teacher, lecturer and mentor at many institutions. She uses this experience to promote a collaborative work environment and acts not only as lead designer but also as a creative mentor for others. Kate is licensed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Florida. She is also a licensed horticulturalist with the American Horticultural Society, and an Invasive Plant Manager with the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC). Kate is a member of The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB), the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (RI ASLA), the Rhode Island Nursery & Landscape Association (RINLA) and the Preservation Society of Newport County. She became certified as a Master Gardener in 2010
