We design landscapes where people connect to the beauty of the natural world, and redefine home to include nature. Through the process of design, we experience the landscape and its potential, testing it for balance, beauty and client expectations.
A Rhode Island native, Kate Field received her bachelor of arts, with honors, in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. She then went on to receive a bachelor of landscape architecture with high distinction from the University of Arizona. In 1981, Kate started her own firm Katherine Field and Associates, Inc., Landscape Architects and Site Planners. She remains Chief Creative Officer and Principal of the firm with a talented team of landscape architects and designers. Katherine Field and Associates has garnered numerous design awards and editorial coverage for its high-end residential, commercial and institutional work.
Kate’s philosophy is aligned with the mission of the firm- connect, enhance, sustain. In all of her designs she strives to connect the user with the space, enhance the beauty of the natural world and create spaces that sustain over time. Kate has been a teacher, lecturer and mentor at many institutions. She uses this experience to promote a collaborative work environment and acts not only as lead designer but also as a creative mentor for others. Kate is licensed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Florida. She is also a licensed horticulturalist with the American Horticultural Society, and an Invasive Plant Manager with the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC). Kate is a member of The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB), the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (RI ASLA), the Rhode Island Nursery & Landscape Association (RINLA) and the Preservation Society of Newport County. She became certified as a Master Gardener in 2010
Ray Maiello received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island. A licensed Landscape Architect with significant office and field experience, Ray brings a strong understanding of residential landscape construction, permitting, project scheduling, client service, and project management processes to his design work. With over 20 years of experience he has become a vital mentor within the firm.
Julia Driscoll received her bachelor of arts from George Washington University and her bachelor of landscape architecture from the University of Rhode Island. Julia is a registered Landscape Architect in Rhode Island and a Rhode Island certified horticulturist. Her past teaching experience includes plant identification, as well as graphic design. Prior to her career in landscape architecture, Julia was an account manager for Bloomberg L.P. and an executive recruiting associate at Spencer Stuart. Julia combines her client relationship skills with her artistic and technical expertise to create a unique approach to landscape design. She has a strong interest in outdoor living solutions, custom detailing, native plant communities and sustainable design.
Lucas received his bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island. He joined KFA as a landscape designer in 2015, after a year as an intern. Skilled in multiple forms of two- dimensional drawing and three-dimensional model-making, Lucas excels in creating graphics to refine and communicate designs for clients. He draws inspiration from the variety of natural landscapes in his home state of Rhode Island, as well as other travel destinations around the country and the world.
Romeo D’Andrea received his bachelor of landscape architecture from the University of Rhode Island in 2017. More than ten years of experience in masonry and construction grants Romeo a firm understanding of design detailing and material integration. Romeo’s unique approach to landscape design pulls from his passion for nature and art from a young age. He is skilled in computer drafting and 3-d modeling programs as well as hand drawing. A Rhode Island Certified Horticulturalist, Romeo often finds himself studying new native plants on his frequent hikes where he also partakes in his favorite hobby of birding.
Sean Bridges received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island in 2022. He is the newest addition to our landscape design team, joining the firm in June of 2022. Sean’s passion for design grew from his love of nature and deep desire to sustain and enhance the coastal environment. The time he spent as a foreman for his local azalea garden has garnered a deep love, appreciation, and understanding for native plants. A recent graduate, he looks to apply his skills in horticulture, computer drafting and 3-d modeling programs to connect clients to their environments.
Karen received both her Masters in Taxation and her Bachelors in Accounting from Bryant College. She has worked as a CPA in both private industry and public accounting firms, and has been with KFA since the fall of 2022. She is responsible for all business operations of the firm. She is very active in animal rescue and is the Treasurer for both a large local animal rescue and a local figure skating club.
Brian received his bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is skilled in a variety of drafting and rendering softwares, has 3 years of experience project managing and building landscapes, and posesses a keen interest in native plants. Certified in Massachusetts and Rhode island as a horticulturalist, Brian enjoys camping in the wilderness and enjoying the natural world.
